BigData Congress 2018 will be co-located with the following service-oriented sister conferences: the 11th 2018 International Conference on Cloud Computing (CLOUD 2018), the 15th 2018 International Conference on Services Computing (SCC 2018), the 25th International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2018), the 7th International Conference on Mobile Services (AIMS 2018), and the 14th World Congress on Services (SERVICES 2018). These co-located theme topic conferences will all revolve around "services," while each focusing on exploring different aspects (cloud-based services, web-based services, business services, mobile services, vertical industry services, and Big Data services).

The technical program of BigData Congress 2018 will consist of a set of regular tracks and a new set of special tracks. The regular tracks are: regular research track, regular applications track, and short paper track. These tracks are similar to previous BigData Congress submission tracks. The regular research track will emphasize both theoretical and experimental research contributions. The regular applications track will pay special attention to insights derived from real world big data applications, particularly with respect to experience reports and evaluation results. The short paper track will consider concise papers for timely dissemination of new ideas and exploratory results.

The recent rapid development of information technology, especially the wide spread of internet and wireless communication, has turned the modern society into a big data era. For example, there are over 350 million photos uploaded on Facebook every day; there is also a boom of online retailers such as Amazon and Alibaba, which produce a huge amount of transaction data and user data. However, how to process and mine useful information from the big data becomes a very challenging issue. It is highly demanded to develop new data modeling techniques to model big data, efficient algorithms to process the big data, powerful data analytic methods to analyze the big data, effective visualization tools to visualize the big data, etc.  In addition, how to develop and apply intelligent data mining technologies for smart healthcare will be one of the most important trends in industry.

On the other hand, the emerging of big data research largely owes to the advancement of communication. The internet is becoming faster with wider bandwidth; WIFI is available not only in office and at home but also in malls, bus, train and flight; while the 4G network is becoming dominant in many countries, the study of 5G has already started. Nonetheless, we also face many new challenges with the rapid development of communication technology, for example, information security and privacy. How to make the communication safer in addition to faster is of great concern for users. One potential solution is the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into network, resulting in a smart and secured network of information communication.

This conference aims to provide a platform for researchers and engineers to share their ideas, recent developments and successful practices in data mining, communication and the related topics in information technology. It is expected that with the face to face discussions among peers from different but related areas, new ideas, methodologies and technologies can be produced, and collaborations among researchers in different countries can be facilitated.

Big data is currently the hottest topic for data researchers and scientists with huge interests from the industry and federal agencies alike, as evident in the recent White House initiative on "Big data research and development". Within the realms of big data, spatial and spatio-temporal data is one of fastest growing types of data and poses a massive challenge to researchers who deal with analyzing such data. With advances in remote sensors, sensor networks, and the proliferation of location sensing devices in daily life activities and common business practices, the generation of disparate, dynamic, and geographically distributed spatiotemporal data has exploded in recent years. In addition, significant progress in ground, air- and space-borne sensor technologies has led to an unprecedented access to earth science data for scientists from different disciplines, interested in studying the complementary nature of different parameters.

The 6th workshop on Analytics for Big Geospatial Data aims to bring together researchers from academia, government and industrial research labs who are working in the area of spatial analytics with an eye towards massive data sizes. The objective of this workshop is to provide a platform for researchers engaged in addressing the big data aspect of spatial and spatio-temporal data analytics to present and discuss their ideas. We invite participants from industry, academia, and government to participate in this event and share, contribute, and discuss the emerging big data challenges in the context of spatial and spatio-temporal data analysis.

The main motivation for this workshop stems from the increasing need for a forum to exchange ideas and recent research results, and to facilitate collaboration and dialog between academia, government, and industrial stakeholders.

The 3rd Norwegian Big Data Symposium - NOBIDS 2017 welcomes the submission of original research and application papers dealing with all aspects of Big Data and also the speacial theme "Fake News".

The impact of Big Data and large-scale data infrastructures is now visible in science, business, government and civil society. Companies store more data than anyone could imagine just a few years back, and the proliferation of open linked data has made it possible to share well-defined data across organizational and geographical boundaries. Big data and data analytics are rapidly expanding research areas that are of great importance to both industry and academia. The focus is on scalable techniques for intelligent data production, collection, classification, storing, integration, analysis and visualization. Big Data is multi-disciplinary of nature and is closely linked to industrial innovation and value creation.

The 3rd Norwegian Big Data Symposium (NOBIDS) focuses on Big Data applications and Big Data research from all disciplines. This year NOBIDS has a special focus on fake news. As the term “fake news” became popular within the last years, it is a growing problem to distinguish the real news within the great churn of online news. The effect of social media both as a source of news and the media for spreading the existing news cannot be underestimated. Recently, detection of fake news is mostly done by the manual work of professional journalists while there is also a lot of research going on towards the automatic detection of fake news. Worldwide efforts to professionally and easily spot the fake news, brings the journalists and computer scientists together. NOBIDS 2017 aims to bring researchers and industry practitioners together to exchange ideas, establish collaborations and share experiences within the special theme of fake news.

NOBIDS 2017 will be held in conjunction with the NxtMedia Conference in Trondheim.

Nowadays, there is notable progress in designing and deploying information and organizational management systems, experts systems, tutoring systems, decision support systems, and in general, industrial systems.

Welcome to ASC 2018

As the rapid growth of user-generated data from social networks, wikis and social tagging systems, it is necessary to understand the high-level semantics and user subjective perceptions from such a large volume of data. Emotions or sentiments are one of the most important aspects as the user-generated data are always with emotional loads of their creators. Along with the development of the computational techniques for sentiment analysis and opinion mining, the increasing psychological and cognitive models/theories are exploited for modeling sentiments and emotions by incorporating with social computing techniques such as social network and personalization, mining user reviews, user profiling in social network and so on. Connecting affective/sentimental models and social computing techniques not only can facilitate the understanding big data in at semantic-levels but also improve the performance of various social computing applications in the big data era. It combines affective/sentimental models with social computing as a promising direction and offers opportunities for developing novel algorithms, methods and tools.

The 2nd International Workshop on Affective and Sentimental Computing (ASC 2018) in conjunction with the 5th IEEE International Conference on Big data and smart Computing (BigComp 2018) will bring together the academia, researchers, and industrial practitioners from computer science, information systems, psychology, behavior science, and organization science discipline, and provide a forum for recent advances in the field of sentiment analysis, affective computing, emotion detections, and opinion mining from the perspectives of various computing techniques.
